Hello All.

Can someone please help me with some photo stills of the second "replacement" layout from THE ADDAMS FAMILY? I.e. the building with the BIG GALLON billboard on top of it, and the building next to it with the two tanks mounted on top of it. I believe that those buildings were exclusively made for the show. And was probably made of cardboard. I hope to recreate them with sheets of styrene plastic.

ANY INFORMATION on the second layout will GREATLY BE APPRECIATED. Also, what type of Lionel tunnel is used on it as well? As seen in an episode. I'm hoping to recreate, the second replacement Lionel layout. The billboards that I can identify are BIG GALLON, NAVY, VAN CAMPS, & TARGET RANGE. Please let me know if anyone can identify the billboard behind the ROTATING BEACON TOWER?

At this point ,I can only afford to build the second layout .hopefully ,I can build the original first layout at a later date .

I humbly and sincerely thank you all in advance and hope to get some helpful information soon.

For anyone interested in replicating the second layout, the train sets Gomez has bought are the 11490 “5 Unit Diesel Passenger” and 11460 “7 Unit Steam Freight”, both of the same page of the 1964 Catalogue. There’s a good illustration of them on page 245 of David Doyle’s Standard Catalogue  of Lionel Train Sets 1945-1969.

With an ITT sound module, a smoke generator, and some kind of breakaway bridge, it would be possible to sort of simulate this, if you had a big enough speaker.

Just make sure you do put insulated track on either side, or you might wreck that $1,000 plus engine for real.

A side note, there was an earlier episode of I Love Lucy that had a Lionel Super Chief. It was when Little Ricky was younger. Lucy fills the appartment with toys to convince Ricky they need a bigger place, which of course the Mertzs have available, but it costs more, and Ricky doesn't want to pay the extra money each month.

A few comments for those interested in recreating the Super O layout: there are different scenes that show different numbers of AMT aluminum passenger cars used (the main collision/bridge blowing scene involves a 2349 M&STL GP-9 and a chicken sweeper car plowing into a Santa Fe F-3 pulling a lone AMT Santa Fe aluminum vista dome car (an early shot shows what looks like 3 AMT coaches coupled to the F unit back from the blown up bridge, no dome car to be seen). I've noted AMT coaches, an RPO and a dome car used in different episodes. You can tell Lionel didn't provide the trains by the use of the AMT passenger cars.

In one episode there's a shot of the F unit with a RPO car and the vista dome being chased by the M&STL Geep pulling a lone coach. The shell and chassis on the F unit is blackened from being in the explosions and the oval portion of the logo was removed or painted over.  The steam engine pulling a train on the outermost loop is usually seen not pulling a tender, but the episode where Pugsley is in the Boy Scouts shows the 2-6-4 pulling a 2046 type tender and a couple cars The ZW has a toggle switch on top of the casing - it's also on the ZW seen in the Twilight Zone/Art Carney as Santa episode - you can see Art/Santa flip the switch before running the trains.

The 0-27 sets on the second layout never get blown up - they reused the explosion/crash scenes from the Super-O layout.

Hi Ricky, I believe that you're right. From everything that I've read, the show's budget was significantly cut for season two and the production crew had to build a layout on less than a shoestring budget. After the original layout was damaged beyond repair from season one. Since many other ADDAMS FAMILY fans duplicate the layout from season one, I would like to attempt to build an updated version of the season two layout. I hope to be able to recreate the buildings in the same design only with better detail. After watching the videos on YouTube, I can't properly identify the tunnel as seen in an episode of season two. And the building with the BIG GALLON sign on top of it could pose a problem for me. It has the two slanted roofs on both the left and right sides of the building. And since I've never scratch built anything before, I'm kinda nervous about building it. Any thoughts or suggestions will greatly be appreciated.

Here are some photos of the second season layout. These buildings have been identified as Playskool Village Wooden Blocks. Now, I'm searching for them, especially the ones shown here with the slanted roof(s). So far, eBay hasn't been any help with that. Would anyone know where I can get some at please? Any info on these buildings will greatly be appreciated. I'm Not giving up on the 2nd season layout anytime soon.

Your photos are fuzzy, but I saw these on a estate sale ad.

I REALLY DO NOT VARE WHAT SEASON IT WAS.  LIONELS GOT WRECKED!

Absolutely, I don't care what season it was either

I think they got wrecked every season too

and it still wasn't quite often enough

A translated paraphrase attributed to Charlie Chaplin says "we laugh when we see something that hurts to much to think about"

You really are going the extra mile on exact. How did you find the tunnel brand, lol. You've obviously landed a big info source I've never seen.

Is it pressed pulp paper, foam, or other substance?

There just might be more than one version of the blocks too.  Setting them on the intended spots should kinda tell you since the track is what it is .

There is a lot of greenery filler there around them too, isn't there?
