Me too. In a Lionel catalog there had a CP diesel with the moving lights around the catwalk for the batteries charging. I talked myself out of it. Then at a open house at the service center they had one on their test layout. I had a second chance to possibly get it and a second time I walked away. Now I am sorry I didn't buy one......Paul
yes i have always wanted PRR Q1 screwed around and didn't buy it. now i wish i had. usually as a train junkie i buy anything i need (want).
Too many to name . . . but the last Lionel Dreyfus Hudson comes to mind.
Lionel CSX Super Bass.
Ah, yes.....that Weaver 2-8-0 that I thought would continue to be offered in various
roadnames. that toy prewar schoolbus I wanted to make a railbus out of..think it was
Toosietoy?, uh, and a long, boring list of "wish-I-hads"
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A LOCOMOTIVE YOU LIKED BUT DIDN'T GET IT? |
Yes - Keep looking at all the LionChief Plus Locomotives.
Diesel & Steam Power
The controller looks like a good deal and some even have Odyssey II, Speed Control.
This is on the bucket list.......
Being a 'boy' originally from the upper Midwest, just about every diesel in every paint scheme of every granger railroad that ever plied the rails appeals to me. At some point you have to 'just say no to'...new trains. Helps teach discipline and develop prioritization skills. At least that's what my wife says is supposed to happen...

Up until I could afford to buy 'em on my own...all of 'em ! Still looking for a Sam 48" GEEP in HO scale....should have bought in '84, and didn't.
Actually, I haven't bought MOST of the locomotives I like a lot. Too many trains, not enough money....
Would The Toonerville Trolley by C&M Reproductions qualify?

"HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A LOCOMOTIVE YOU LIKED BUT DIDN,T GET IT?"
Yes, everyday.
I usually buy something. I get the "what do you think everyday is Christmas" speech too.
It's a really bad question to ask here, for us recovering from TAD.
I have lusted after many a locomotive in my heart. Though my basement appears to the contrary, I have not bought them all.
Yes, I like the new Daylight Cab Forward from Lionel. Would love to get it. I can afford it but I am trying to scale back. I thought I had all the engines I had ever wanted. But this new Daylight has me going through cravings. I really do not have the room for it. I have all my engines on display. I am an MTH guy. I do not have any Legacy systems equipment such as the remote and base unit. I would have to buy that. I only run DCS. It gets complicated. I don't know if I can hold out though. That Daylight Cab Forward is pretty interesting.
Been there too many times. However, your patience is often rewarded when the missed item shows up for sale -- often for less than the original price.
It usually happens twice a year. When I receive The Spring Catalog(s) and The Christmas Catalog(s).
I think most of us can say absolutely YES. In 2004, Lionel cataloged several new scale F3 units. I bought most of them, but not he B&Os because I did not have a set of passenger cars to go with them. I have regretted not getting them over the years. Recently, I acquired a set of K-Line 21" B&O Lightweights and I then went "on the hunt" for that set I wished I had purchased many years ago. Thanks to the OGR Forum, the power up front is on it's way.
I really love streamlined steamers. However, I have worked very hard to limit myself to my goal of an "all steam" N&W roster. With the exception of a handful of diesels, I have been pretty successful.
If I were to start buying streamlined steamers, I honestly can't say where it would stop. They really are my "slippery slope". For starters, I'd have to have NYC, then C&O, then Milwaukee, then Southern Pacific, then......

Happened yesterday to me at an estate sale.
Precision Scale 2-rail UP 2-8-8-0 Bull Moose. Beautiful locomotive and very rare. Probably never see another one in person. I'd convert it to 3-rail.
In the end, I didn't buy it. Now I wish I would've.
Multiple times...
Lionel's PRR Legacy e7's
Lionel's PRR F7's
Mth's PRR F7's
All because of Lackamoney!
I don't buy every item I like. I would need a much bigger house.
Oh yes, it's Clinchfield engines. Every time I see one it's a big mental argument between my good side and my cheap side.

Oh, my, yes. And I STILL have more stuff than I can use.
Missed and desired, to name a few: Atlas NYC EMD F-2 in the black "whiskers" freight
scheme; Gulf, Mobile & Ohio F-3 in the same catalogue. The new Weaver B&M P4
Pacific that showed up on daBay for around $600, fully equipped, last week or so. Saw it, had to "think about it", missed it. 3rd Rail PRR Q1 Duplex. Modern 700E Hudson - overpriced, and has gotten nothing but more overpriced since. Many others.

I did, however, buy my only Vision Line loco a few years ago, new, at a price that, while
not cheap, I have never seen since (not sayin'). I have run the loco once, for a short TRO; back in box. I have seen people asking (getting?) much more than I paid. It was the ATSF 2-10-10-2 Mallet; ran well on its short, short test, still have it, boxed.
Now I don't want to run it and make it non-mint. Yet it's not really for sale. Disgusting.
Yes, yes, yes, yes,.......... and mostly because I cannot afford all I want!
Yes, the JLC Allegheny... And yes of course, everything Erie.
"It was the ATSF 2-10-10-2 Mallet;"
D500, this sure is a keeper. Runs as good as it looks.
I pass on most of of the locomotives I want, usually because I don't have the funds when the item becomes available.
in order for me to buy something expensive like a model locomotive I have to save the money first, and then go on the hunt--hoping that I can find the item at that point.
This isn't all bad, and in fact it is good in many ways, because I have to really want something bad in order to go through the steps necessary to buy the item.
Here's my current O scale want list. Notice that there is nothing cohesive about the list--O scale is my scale for collecting trains that I love, without any pressure to justify a reason for the models to exist side by side on a layout:
MTH ESE 4-4-0 (the latest version with PS3)
MTS Imports New Orleans streetcar
3rd Rail North Shore Electroliner
Lionel N&W Class A 2-6-6-4
3rd Rail GTW U3B 4-8-4
Atlas Manufacturer's Rwy MP15dc
Lionel scale 4-6-4 Hudson
Lionel D&H PA-1 A-A set.
