Am trying to set the smoke output on our Legacy Berkshire Cab 2696. I had some problems setting this one up again recently and have gotten it out of whack - the smoke output ceased. I can hear the fan pulsing but no smoke. Am hoping I somehow set it to OFF and can't find the steps to raise it in the Legacy Manual. What have I missed pleased?

Hi Sam,
If I understand what you're asking, just press smoke increase (number 9 on the remote)

Good evening to you too Alex. Perhaps I'm confusing this with PS2 where we can set the smoke output? Does Legacy have a low-med-high too?
I've bumped the No 9 and get nothing. Have held it down for a few seconds like TMCC to no avail.
Just noticed that my display is showing a '+" instead of the smoke stack in No 9.
Have you turned the smoke unit switch to on? Its located under the firemans side (left side) of the cab.
I believe the switch needs to be turned on and then you can turn the smoke off and on via the remote.
Hi Sam,
Lets check something first, make sure the smoke on/off switch is in the on position
Then tell me how much smoke fluid you put in the stack, if it's more than 25 to 30 drops
she might be overfilled. If you didn't overfill it,then I would reprogram the engine and everything should be back too normal
Yes, switch is ON but no smoke. I see that the fan still pulses when the switch is OFF however.
I put about 15 or so drops this time.
I've not run any Legacy engines in so long I forget these simple things - How to reprogram it Alex?
Sam,
On the bottom of the engine there's a switch that says run/program, switch it to program. Put the engine on the track and apply normal power, now with your legacy remote press engine then your engine number and then press set. You should hear a whistle. Now shut the power off, switch the run/program switch back to run. Put the engine on the track apply normal power and everything should be back to normal.
Ha! That did it Alex, thanks. I've been meaning to change the number anyway. Before the keypad showed a "+" (No 9) instead of the stack it now shows. I'm truly not familiar with Legacy and feel silly with these problems. Interesting however is that the smoke is coming out from under the boiler as well, more-so than out of the stack. Perhaps she took a knock in transport recently. I'll have to see if I like the new arrangement...
Was just running your No 611 while waiting for a reply. What a beauty.
Thanks to you also RickO, I really appreciate your input! How's your layout coming? Have always enjoyed your photos and video, especially the 'other' Berkshire!
To clarify, when I mention 'running' trains here I'm speaking rhetorically in that we have a bench with about 5' of scaletrax (what else?) to 'operate' locomotives on here at the house. It keeps me sane and helps put some smoke aroma into the room. Recently it's been P&Ps Train Smoke in vanilla.
Please note the HO counterparts of the Berkshire and Alex's N&W J Class on the shelf above...

Your welcome Sam, layouts coming along "slowly" hope to make more progress this winter. I always seem to get bogged down running trains
Regarding the smoke from under the boiler, try shining a flashlight down the stack and make sure the smoke unit outlet is correctly lined up.
Some of these "early legacy" berks, including NKP and PM versions as well, came from the factory with misaligned smoke units.
I had to oil the fan motor on my PM berk and misalinged it when putting it back together. For some reason the locos go together just fine even though the smoke unit isn't right.
I took mine back apart and carefully lowered the the front of the shell down onto the smoke unit then brought the cab down.
This is the only loco I've experinced this on, others typically won't go back together unless things are where they're supposed to be.
Hi Sam,
I'm glad it worked, If more smoke is coming out from the bottom, there maybe some
meniscus blocking the stack. Just blow down the stack and it should clear it.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi RickO what you suggested sounds more like the problem
Thanks,
Alex
Sometimes when they get put back together, the smoke unit bracket gets bent to cause what Rick suggests. Like he said, just shine a light down the stack, it should be obvious if the smoke unit is not centered properly.
The fact that smoke comes out below indicates that this is likely the issue.
Thanks a lot guys- I really appreciate you all
as a point of info when you get the "+" on the cab2 you are in TMCC mode.
