High Praise of an old MTH P2 - 9943, Pa 2-8-0 Engine!

Probably built by Samhongsa in Korea. I have several of those 1990's era Weavers and MTH buitl by Samhongsa, all upgraded to ps2, and they run endlessly and without issues.  Definitely keepers!

Yep! Great engine and price as well I had 2 of them. Unfortunately I stole both boards PS-2  for other engines. (the 5 volt boards are still running)

It would be interesting to know who made the 5-volt boards in that era, and whether the ones that are failing are later design or by another manufacturer and/or used different components.

    I have often wondered myself, they had a great product in that era, I can't understand why we have these newer boards failing, when the older ones worked perfectly, and darn near for ever.  What ever happened they need go back to the stuff that worked for ever and eliminate the problems with these new boards.

   A long time ago when MTH 1st started making P2 Steam Engines, I purchased a Pennsylvania 2-8-0 Steamer from one of my long time train buddies (Harry) who was breaking down the MTH Sets and selling them in pieces to make a decent Profit at the old time Monroeville, Pa trains shows.  I purchase this P2 Pa Steamer for $159.00 way back and it has been one of the best MTH P2 Steamers I ever purchased.  The original MTH Sound System in this old P2 Steamer, has all my Legacy engines beat by a country mile, loud beyond belief and with no distortion what so ever, it dominates the layout every time she is put on the tracks.  The old girl pulls 17 Cars with out rubber traction tires and 20 plus with them.  If you are looking for a great low detailed non breakable Bullet proof, P2 engine that hold up to every kind of play abuse you can think of, from all different kinds kids and adults I highly recommend these old P2 Pa 2-8-0 Rail King Steamers, especially for Children.  A bullet proof old steamer with quality sounds and play time, MTH got this one right, a long time ago.  Looks real nice on the tracks also.

Worked on several at LHS from an estate collection purchase...battery change,quick service,add smoke oil..load up and track test in DCS. Very impressed and i am a diesel guy. I track tested for each customer ...they sold themselves. Even in conventional(lot of purchasers still run conventional) performed impressively.

    Bill you got to love the sound system in these old MTH P2 2-8-0 Pa Engines, you can run every train on your layout, and still hear the announcements over all the train noise, clear outside your home, and the old sound system is only turned up to about 60-70%, wish all my Legacy Engines and the newer P2/P3 engines had the same quality sound system, reminds me of the big sound system, you have in your home, it really gets the job done.
