Many times the NYC Mohawk gets discussed here - as it should - but we always discuss classes L2, L3 and L4.
Sure, mostly because they've been modeled (well) in O gauge.
But the first Mohawk was the L1a (b and c), some lived into the 1950's, and were heavily modernized.
The Mohawk was a direct outgrowth of the Central's fast freight Pacifics, had 63" drivers I think,
and were designed for the same service, but hauling more tonnage.
But I'd like to have a chance to purchase the ur-Mohawk, class L1a (#2500, I think), slim, lean and sporting that big,
square headlight.
The same tooling, in the main, could be used to offer a more updated version - which I'm sure that more would like.
That way we O-gaugers would have them all: L1, 2, 3 and 4.
