I'm looking at my first Williams freight car. It will be an online purchase and the pictures aren't that good. Even on the BMann site. I don't own any Wiliams and haven't seen any. How do they compare in detail to Lionel, MTH, KLine?
Thanks

Marty,
I own a couple of Williams freight cars and they are OK for the price. However, the real bargain is in their engines. I own three of them and one trolly and the detailing is very good and they run exceptionally well. Of course, they don't compare with MTH Premeir or top of the line Lionel, but for the price they are an excellent buy. About a month ago I purchased a Williams Baldwin and it is wonderful. I haven't taken it off my layout since and I have over 25 engines. It's just fun to run and watch. Have no fear with Williams.

I have not looked into them lately, but the few pieces of rolling stock i used to own had minimal detailing.
Lionel 0-27 or MTH Railking or even less as certain railking items are rather well detailed.
Williams detail on their rolling stock is average at best.
If one is cost consious, Frank's Roundhouse made a great serious of box cars. Very, very 6464 like and available for $20 to $25. In Chicago one can always find some at the train shows. Also on eBay.
Will see if I can post a photo. Haven't tried yet. Well, just tried, pretty easy.

The detailing on WBB freight cars is about the same as on Lionel traditional line cars. The WBB boxcars are a bit closer to scale than the traditional Lionel whereas the covered hoppers are the same size as a Lionel quad hopper. I've used the roofs off of WBB covered hoppers on Lionel quad hoppers with no problems. My only gripe with the WBB covered hoppers is that they have brake wheels on both ends of the car. Beyond that, they have nice graphics, metal trucks and run like champs.

Chris:
Not sure about whose molds WBB uses, but the boxcars are real close to those put out by Crown Model Products a number of years ago. I'm not sure whether Crown is still in business but, if not, WBB may be using their boxcar molds.
Curt
I think Weaver has the Crown molds.
I thought the W/WBB cars were based on the Lionel "scale" boxes pre-war.
Thanks all, I'm looking at the Stewarts root beer car as it will go with my MTH Giants cars. We drink Root Beer during games as my 13 year old won't drink Scotch with me. I'm guessing for the price, I will just buy it and see. The descriptions given match what I can se in the pics
But the W/WBB cars do stand up well on layouts which are in the public view.
The williams are great if you run semi scale trains but if you run more scale size trains then the Williams look out of place.
