I don't think that there is a 'design life' to this component. I use my system a bit more than you have asked about, and it's fine after 2 years of use.
I have heard that a few people have had these screens fail, but they seem to be pretty tough, and failure is an exception.
I've used mine for 4 Years, and no problems. AND I use mine almost every day!!

I think the key word is "touch" versus "press". I suspect some early failures may have been do to over exhuberant "pressing".
