I'm not sure if this topic has been addressed before, but in my 12 years of running Lionel and MTH engines, this is a little trick I learned to make the smoke fluid last longer. It is based on the fact that there is quite a bit of evaporation from the smoke unit when it sits idle for a given length of time. In the past, I have gotten maybe one or two good runs on a normal fill of smoke fluid after it sat idle for awhile. I discovered that if I seal the smoke stack after a run with a rubber automotive vacuum plug, or a simple piece of aluminum foil, which conforms nicely to any smokestack, I can more than double the number of runs I get without diminished smoke. I have had engines sit on the shelf a couple of months and they still smoke as if freshly filled. Hope you find this hint helpful in stretching your smoke fluid supply.
