I've seen some nice (but sometimes odd) scents for smoke fluid in hobby shops and at train shows. I really like the Christmas Pine scent - it has that Christmas tree and gingerbread house vibe to it. MTH sells some scents like cinnamon, barbecue, etc. It almost makes me want to eat the stuff (but it's toxic, obviously)!

If I could choose the next three scents to be made for O Scale model railroading, I'd probably go for pizza (everyone likes pizza), soap (you never know; it could actually make your house smell better), and rain (that indistinguishable smell outside after it rains).

What are your thoughts on smoke fluid scents? What would you suggest? ;-)

I would certainly stay away from home brew scents.  I know Lionel is very particular on smoke fluids in their units and will void the warranty because of this and the OGR forum management doesn't look kindly upon home made smoke fluids.

That being said, I know JTs Mega Steam is always open to new suggestions.  They make a great deal of really unique scents and many of them have come from suggestions here on the forum.  They have pretty much covered all the scents I like so I'd be interested to see what others come up with.  Pizza maybe...peanut butter ugh.  LOL!

Cooking donuts? Is that a Mega Steam scent?

I really like the Cinnamon roll, Hot chocolate, Grand pa's pipe, Candy Cane, Bayberry Holiday, Christmas Pine, and X-mas berry...

Ones I think they could toss in the can are vanilla, diesel smoke, coal steam, and original Cedar. Whew one whiff  and I was running for the stairs gagging... But that is just my opinion, everyone is different when it comes to smells....

Although, if you want the Mrs. not to come down into the basement. One lap around the layout with a good cloud of smoke and she will vacate the premises.

Cedar doesn't bother me.  Diesel never tried bu the coal steam...ugh.  I was always looking for burning rubber or something burning because of it.

My 2 favorites by far are - 1) MTH Christmas scent and - 2) Mega Steam Eliminator (I actually like the scent of this one).

However, I admit that I have not tried every scent available (way too many out there). I did try a few and really liked the two above, so that was pretty much the end of my testing of any others. I may try a few of the new Lionel scents when my LHS gets them in stock.

My favorite, a complete surprise, was grape. It didn't sound appealing, most fruit scent to me is deep and near rotten smelling; but grape was light and fresh. (Pat's trains version)

Vanilla was acceptable, but not great. A weak scent, not a bad one.

Smoke pellet didn't smell quite right; too bad.

Real coal stinks, so I'd pass that right from the start, accurate or not.

I might go for wood burning though. I like the smell of a campfire anyhow.
