I saw a LGB "G" scale used cable car at my LHS for $49. It really piqued my interest. It is the variety that goes from mountain base to mountain top or across a mountain valley where people ride in small cars hanging from cables. It got me thinking as to whether or not anybody ever made these in O scales.

The European company Jagerndorfer makes cable car systems in 1:32 and 1:87 scale. They are very nice and can accommodate gondolas or open chair-type cars. They offer additional towers and wire to fit your specific application.

As far as i can find, no company makes an O scale version. Only G or HO scale. Bummer

I am surprised that more of these and monorails are not made. Just for the Christmas layout market alone, which goes beyond the train guys and covers everyone who sets up a Dept 56 layout. There is a big market for these. There are some old cable car sets that pop up on eBay and sell for top dollar when they appear.

I am trying to determine if the LGB (used) at my LHS is a bargain. Even so, it is so big. (In G)
Department 56 Offered one. You probably could find one on the secondary market.
A cable car set was also put out by Mr Christmas. You could try to redecorate the cars or replace them with totally new ones you make.
