What would be the difference between K Line rolling stock, when we are comparing the same modeled reefer, when one is K Line number K642-xxxx and the other is K762-xxxx ?

? Maybe the prototypical numbering of two real ones? You can check that side by side.
Detail may be slightly different.. rivit count? Trucks? Scale?
I'm firing into the sky; blind beyond saying look closer.
Lionel in the prewar and post-war years did a lot of the same but changed the number, some there were no differences, somewhere paint, some sat higher than others. example 2460 ( 6 wheel trucks ) 6460, 6560 color change of the cab and addition or subtraction of a smoke stack
The K Line 642 series were their "O Gauge" reefer cars-similar, for example, to their 641 series O Gauge boxcars-all these were K Lines's traditional classic size cars similar, for example, to Lionel's 6464 boxcars. The 762 series were K Line's " O Scale" size reefers ( their scale boxcars were the 761 series). These cars were in general a bit larger/ more to scale than the 641/642 series cars.
Turtle7 has it right.
