I have the Western Pacific A-B-A set with TMCC/RS. Both A units have two vertical can motors each and are controlled by one TMCC board in the lead unit. It runs fine in reverse but in forward it'll travel a little ways, stop completely then continue a little farther and do it again, doing this repeatedly. It doesn't matter if I disconnect the lead (TMCC) A unit and run it by itself - it still does it. What's going on here?

I have the Reading F3 AA units. My trailing A unit was messed up and both AA's were at Kline when the company folded. A year later I got a package with the A units back and the tailing A still was not functional. I chose to convert the engine to Proto2 and the conversion was expensive (north or $500) to have both units powered. It was a not worth the upgrade (other than for sentimental reasons) and the gearing is such that I have very little slow control (speed step 3 is about 10 smph). If you enjoy TMCC I would recommend a fix with an ERR unit.
My K-Line F7s never worked right; I converted them with a Cruise Commander M (lead A) and Cruise Commander (trailing A).

Try changing the tach tape for one with more stripes, you'll have better low speed control.

Hi John,
The stop/start problem is just in one direction and happens at all speeds. It only travels a couple of feet between stops. Do these have cruise that could cause this or could it be the TMCC board itself?
John, yours is likely a different issue, I was talking about the PS/2 upgrade. For those, changing the tach tape solves it.
For yours, I'd do the usual steps, swap the R2LC first and see if that helps. Of course, the exact model is useful here.
Reprogram the R2LC and do the aux code.
If Marty's or John's suggestion does not work, I think you might have a cold solder joint on the motor driver, or a loose/broken connection on the PWM harness for forward. As long as no mechanical binding in fwd. G
My understanding is that none of the Kline engines I got (even the RDG Tank just before their bankruptcy) had cruise. I did get Kline to send me cruise kits for the Hudson, Allegheny, and I think my AA units. With their going out of business, I went the Proto 2 route to have cruise control rather than trying to use the upgrade kit.

The "tank" engine, some F3s, and one version of the Scale Hudson came with factory cruise. Not sure about the scale Berks. Might be some more I am not aware of.
As for John's issue I would take off the shell of the lead engine and reseat the boards and then watch to see if anything is going wrong. I know some of the wiring harnesses can get close to the flywheels and cause one motor to stall. This may be causing the cruise to reset.
Pete
Thanks all for the replies! When I get off the ship and go home I will try these suggestions.
