I have smoke, horn, bell, lights, and couplers, but the engine will not run forwards or backwards. I have 17.5 volts on the track and assigned a new engine number via the program button and the whistle blew when I hit set, but it still didn’t run. I used Aux1 8 as the reset code. Not sure how to proceed. Should I try to run it conventionally with the TMCC base turned off? Is it likely the electronic direction circuit board (LCRU?) If so, I am wondering where to get these boards. I think they are no longer being made by Lionel or ERR. Does that mean I have shelf models(several of my other TMCC engines have problems also, but I will start other threads on them if I don’t learn enough from trying to fix this engine.) THX.

William,

I have two K Line trainmasters. One was converted to 2 rail but still has the 3 rail electronics just disconnected.  The other one was started but not completed.  I have the boards from both and I have no use for them.  If you email me a picture of what you need I can see if I have a match.   I'll sell them very cheap.

Gunnerjohn, how do I know if mine is the cruise version? I doubt if I would have spent the extra on a cruise, but I will look at the underside of the locomotive to see what # it is. If it is a “classic failure,” can it be wired to run in forward only, assuming the motor runs at all? Guess it is time for a little bit of investigatory surgery, which I had hoped to avoid.

Many of the Trainmasters came with Cruise. If one of the motors has a tach wheel and reader it has cruise. You can replace the board that drives it with with a Lionel non Cruise board or an Electric Railroad Cruise M board. The former will work with TMCC but without cruise. They can be had cheap just for asking as many upgrade to a Cruise M and remove the Lionel DCDR which is what its called.

First step is to tell us exactly what you have, road name, road number, etc.  Also, pictures would help.
