Hi everyone,

Had this engine a while and not run it for a bit. Put it on track and no go with TMCC.

Long story short - after doing all the continuity tests on the handrails decided it must be the radio board. Ordered one form Lionel and during installation discovered a wiring short to the front pickup. Fixed that and away we go -all works but the starts from standing are really quick and jerky causing derailments. I retro fitted the old radio board - old one definitely dead.

Once engine on the move all functions work fine. Even changing the L to M to H setting make no difference. Also tried a re-set., changed the remote batteries and tried two other TMCC engines on he same track - all perfect.

Any ideas - I am sure it ran better than this when I last used it? Could I have a bad board?

Thanks MIKE

I looked on line at Lionmaster T1 5514 (?) to see how they start up, and the one I saw did start abruptly, but did not take off fast. I wonder about installing a Cruise Commander M...it made my K Line hudsons smooth but they did not have cruise in them to begin with. I think there might be some benefit in being able to choose 32 or 100 speed steps. With the C11 to C13 R2LC, the momentum buttons are repurposed to change the speed steps from 32 to 100. With the C08, the speed steps are changed with a string of commands.

I can't say this would tame the T1, but it works for my K Line Hudsons. I did try the K Line Cruise add on but did not find it as good as the CC M.

I am curious. Do you know which part # they suggested\are supplying?

A thread from last month was an interesting discussion. Boxcar Bill, a Lionel repair person had some interesting comments on the options to repair this problem. Ultimately, his suggestion was to replace the control board with a new ERR version.

I see that the motor assembly is listed as unavailable and the alt# is available. Hence, the source of my curiosity.

Edit: I found the thread. Read his reply of 19 Aug.

TMCC engine takes off at full speed

Hi Carl,

Thanks for that link - wish I had seen it/found it earlier LOL!

The magnet rings are available and very cheap - even after posting to the UK (Lionel charge me a flat $9 - a bargain!)

My thinking was that I may be able to remove the flywheel - if not I am sure Rob - the UK based repair guy I use every now and then will know what to do and by ordering the parts I could speed the process up. I guess only time tell. If this fails then I will go the other route which may be the best option anyway!

CHEERS MIKE.

Nick - you could be right but the website shows that the complete unit is unavailable for everything except the Lionmaster Hudson. I have that engine so may check if the motors /gears are the same in the small photos on the site they look pretty similar even though the part code is different.

Otherwise  - ERR here I come!

On another matter - did you get your Lionmaster Challenger running - unless I dreamt it I recall you bought a non runner? I have 2 of them, both Legacy, great locomotives.

CHEERS MIKE
