On Sunday over Memorial Day weekend, I picked up loads of track, a track bumper (or buffer in UK terms), two prewar 3/16th O Gauge American Flyer freight cars, and a set of Christmas-themed (!!!) railroad signs for my train layout at our lake house, seeing that my coal elevator would need a siding for waiting hopper cars. So, here's the result!
It's a good thing these beauties were made for tinplate track rather than Lionel's Fastrack sections. In the middle picture is my prewar 3/16th O Gauge American Flyer 4-8-4 Northern engine without its tender. I had plans to make a matching tender from scratch, but one of the clerks at the Great Lakes Train Store told me to stick to buying one online, even though the challenge is rough for me, since AF O Gauge trains are SUPER EXTREMELY RARE. Won't I ever catch a break?
Other than that, there's still work that needs to be done: Exchanging pins from curved tracks and straight tracks, getting the coal elevator to fit the gap between the loop and the siding, and tinkering around with the wiring. But, this is a MAJOR accomplishment I've done so far. My stepmother was so impressed with it, she suggested I set up an admission! XD
