Well i finally made my first lashup,i was allways afraid it would be hard to do ,but i was amazed at how easy it was i used 2 leagacy diesel engines, but i do have 2 questions, first when i blow the horn only the first engine blows,is there a way to make both horns blow at the same time, or is only one supposed to blow? Second, how can i set the speed so both engines don't go over a set speed, i allready had each engine set so they don't go over a set speed before i made the lashup, but once i made the lashup they go beyond the set speed. Thanks for your help.

I'm not an expert but my experience is that what you are addressing is a separate entity - the consist. The settings for that override the settings for the individual engines. If this were not the case, you could potentially have a bunch of conflicting settings that would make the consist either function erratically or not at all.
Again, I'm not the expert but I think that in "real life" it is the lead unit that has the horn/bell sound. Can you override that? I don't know. You could increase the volume a bit (for the consist) and see if that works better for you.
I hope this helps. Merry Christmas!
In the real world, when 2 or more diesels are MU'd (the proper term for a lashup),
there is only one crew in the lead loco, regardless of how many locos are trailing - this
was one of the advantages of diesel-electrics over steamers - so when they blow the horn,
naturally the only horn that they have to blow is their own.
Both horns blowing would be highly odd. The trailing units' horns are not "remote
controlled".
Lashup........
Thanks all for your responses, it all makes sense now so when i make my next LASHUP ,oops!!! i ment mu'd just kidding guys!!!!! i will know what to expect.
LASHUP!!! AAARGH!!!
It is properly called a Multiple Unit Consist, not a lashup. I don't know where the manufacturers got the term "lashup" but it always makes me think of how much rope I'll need to tie the locomotives together. What a horrible term.
this should have been in the tmcc/legacy section.
you can make both horns blow when you are running legacy and have 1.51 installed. when the second or more engines are added look at the bottom of the screen and you will see two icons one for horn and one for talk.
to prevent them from going over a certain speed just pull down the brake on the left of the cab2 remote.
Everytime I see the term "lash up" I think of Rich and the old "NIAGRA FALLS" bit.

Just a quick update,i was able to set the maximum speed of the multiple unit consist the same way as a single engine,i just push tr 1, and press & hold the speed icon tr 1 is the number i gave the train.
Maybe not as much as Rich but I also dislike the term lash-up.
About a month ago I bought a Green Frog 7 DVD set of the Penn Central. I can't remember if it was Disc 1 or 2 but the narrator actually said "Lash-up". A minute later he says "Consist" and then a few minutes after that he goes back to "Lash-up"! Twice he said it! I couldn't believe it. I don't know when these films were originally released. I'm sure the first release was on VHS. Could it be that either the narration from these films or some other railroad films is where Lionel got the term lash-up from?
Could the term be some sort of '60s or '70s railroad slang?
Wow! Thank you.
This thread has made me realize I need to re-think any plans I might have to get Legacy early next year.

Why does this make you not want Legacy?

So "lash-up" is not official railroad terminology but it's readily understood by hobbyists because it infers that locomotive units are literally "tied together", mechanically and electrically.
Don't throw your MU cables in the oily sand by the service track ... that is something to get worked up about.

Once you make the "lash up" you can set a speed limit as you did on a single engine. If you update your software to version 1.51 you have the option of having both whistles sound, if you wish.
