LCS, LSU and WIFI

I seem to remember we were told at York that it will connect to a PC running LSU. But looking at my LSU software I see no option for a WiFi connection so maybe it will be in a later release...or I remember wrong but I'm 95% sure it was mentioned.

I was just wondering the same thing.  Looks like another good question for the LUG breakfast at York.

I'm pretty sure this was mentioned and the answer was it would be able to connect to a PC.  This was welcomed by folks with their base out of reach connect. I remember because after we heard it , my reaction was you'd still need to get to the base to create a module. 

I think this system will be on my "look only" list until it gets some miles on it.  It's difficult to know what plays with what right now.  It appears that to use most of the goodies you need an iPad, which I don't have and don't really intend to get.

You have a point there John. I did this with the Legacy set.

A pal of mine jumped straight in and got struck with the unit that has to be sent back to Lionel before you can update the software. Being he is in the UK this is a major pain. In fact I don't think he has bothered. Ever glad I just held fire until the V1.2 990 sets came out.

 I have the IPad and have played about with LCS but with only 4 switches on my layout I wonder if it's worth it.

There will have to be a lot of "value added" to get me to start investing in all sorts of extra stuff.   After all, I can have a couple more locomotives with that money!

This is true, but it would still be easier to carry a black module back and forth to the base than to disconnect the base from a layout, carry it to the computer, hook it up, make the module, disconnect it and return it to the layout.

I'd like to get an iPad some day, but in the mean time, the LSU having this capability would certainly tempt me to invest in the wifi hardware before I get the iPad.

Well Jon Z did alude to some surprises when using the sensor track and LCS. I guess we'll see.  The LUG meeting organizers are looking to get as much info as we can. I would suggest adding questions to the LUG thread.
