With all the new LCS information out, I have a question:

Will the Lionel WIFI module only be used to communicate with the IPAD and LCS app, or will it eventually be used to communicate with a PC running LSU?

This would be nice to know because if the WIFI will communicate with the LSU, it will save me the cost of the USB/serial converter.

In addition, it would be nice to use the LSU and WIFI to update the Command Base without moving it from the train room to the computer room.

Otherwise, I have no need for the WIFI module unless there will be an Android app.

You have a point there John. I did this with the Legacy set.

A pal of mine jumped straight in and got struck with the unit that has to be sent back to Lionel before you can update the software. Being he is in the UK this is a major pain. In fact I don't think he has bothered. Ever glad I just held fire until the V1.2 990 sets came out.

I have the IPad and have played about with LCS but with only 4 switches on my layout I wonder if it's worth it.

This is true, but it would still be easier to carry a black module back and forth to the base than to disconnect the base from a layout, carry it to the computer, hook it up, make the module, disconnect it and return it to the layout.

I'd like to get an iPad some day, but in the mean time, the LSU having this capability would certainly tempt me to invest in the wifi hardware before I get the iPad.
