Legacy 1.52 available

1.52 has been out since York.  It hasn't really been "advertised".  If you went to download 1.51 since then you got 1.52.   The only things over 1.51 is probably the last 6 items.

Thanks Marty.  I was not aware of that.  I've been running 1.51 waiting for Lionel to post 1.52.

The 1.52 upgrade is on this page, clearly labeled.  I've been running it for some time.

Is there any reason to think this is now any different than the 1.52 I updated my Legacy Command Base and Cab2's with several weeks ago?  I mean now that is officially posted and all?  Thanks.

Do you need the black module to down load this latest version? If you have an older version than 1.51, do you have to down load earlier versions first? David56

Yes you need a Black module (or a modified blue one), you can update from any other version (1.2 or higher) directly

Hi all.  Just signed-up as a new member.  I've always read the forum, but now I have some questions pertaining to the 1.52 upgrades per this thread.  I made a couple of "black" modules as per gunnerunnerjohn's previous thread and was able to upgrade my Legacy Base and Cab2 to 1.52 from 1.3.  My thought was to then upgrade some club members Legacy's using the same "black" module, but only the base would upgrade to 1.52.  The Cab2 would finish stating "base not found".  Tried to change channels, but no channel could be found.  I then tried to reprogram the "black" modules using the Lionel LSU, but I surmise the modules are a one shot program because that didn't work either. Does anyone know if each upgrade requires a new set of programmable "black" modules and must be done via the LSU/computer interface?

Nope.  The module get over written every time.  1 set is all you should ever need.

 

Possible bad module?

I have a set of modules I take to club meetings and upgrade other members Legacy sets, and I only burn them once and use them many times.

I'm guessing you're talking about the bash at Alex's place?  I'm sure we can arrange something, I'd be surprised if Alex doesn't have them.  I'll stick them in my car so I don't forget them.

Thanks to all who responded to my problem with the made up "black" modules.  Something must have happened since I upgraded my own Legacy Cab 2 system.  I did reprogram the modules again using the LSU and got a "successful module creation" message, but it still would not load into the Cab2.  I get a bad module error indication - 4 blinks of the red light on the Cab2.  I can reload V1.3 with no problem.  Might have try new modules.  Thanks again.

Did you just clip the pin off the chip or do it the second method of moving the zero-ohm resistor?  Moving the resistor should have yielded a module just like the Lionel Black Modules, though I've never seen the shortcut fail.

gunnerunnerjohn: I did the second method, removed a 100 ohm resistor and inserted a short wire jumper as you showed in your illustration.  I even reprogrammed the "black" base module to a second "black" cab2 module, but no luck with that one either.  Same results.  Maybe the Cab2 became corrupted somehow for a 1.52 upgrade???

John, that would be good.  I conversed with Alex a while back and told him if any of the guys/gals need DCS or Legacy upgrades, I will have my laptop with me.  More is good.  I find the LSU very easy to work with. 

Alex doesn't have them.  I just did his upgrade with him last week. He's now running 1.52 and it's working very well.   I'll try to remember to bring my laptop also and my black modules. 

 

 

I'll just bring the modules with 1.52 on them, no need for a laptop, you can upgrade on the spot. I assumed they were talking about bringing the Legacy with them for the upgrade.

 

You guys can burn any new black modules if they want to take modules back with them.

 

Need laptop for MTH.  If anyone has blank black modules, bring them with you.

Are you loading the right module into the handheld, there is one file for the Base and one for the CAB.

 

I would pull them both down again (Clear your browser Cache and History first)  and reload the base and the CAB

As a newbie to the Legacy System, I had a lot of questions regarding how to update my Legacy CAB & base from V1.4 (which is how it came when I bought it) to the latest V1.52.  I'd like to thank everyone here on the Forum for guiding me through it!

 

I decided not to try to make a black module from a blue one.  Instead I ordered a black module from the Lionel on-line store on Tuesday and received it yesterday (Thursday). 

 

I then followed the step-by-step instructions in the Legacy System Utility User Manual (that I found somewhat buried on Lionel's website) and downloaded both the Legacy System Utility and the V1.52 update software from Lionel's website to my home desktop last evening.  Only one attempt and about 10-15 minutes later, I successfully updated the CAB and base!  Turned out to be pretty easy to do.

Marty, good point about the MTH update, I was thinking Legacy.  I can toss my laptop in the car, there should be plenty of room.

 

Took the advice from Chris and was able to successfully upgrade 2 Legacy Command Systems to 1.52.  I must have done something wrong somewhere, but all is well now.  Thanks for everyone's comments and help.  Didn't want to leave you all hanging.
