Don't forget to buy GOOD rope for this. Don't tie off to the handrails...they will bend.
LASHUP - what a terrible word...
Hey Rich, was kind of hoping you would take the bait and CHIME in here!
The "lashup" term appears to have been created by Lionel over a decade ago to describe in the TOY train world the electronic hookup of multiple power units to act as one. MTH also continued to use this term. It is use in all their instructional publications and understood by all.
Now in reality a great term for TOY trains. In the toy train world we do not actual MU engines together, MTH AA, AB, ABA units being the exceptions since they are actually connected together by wire. And in the case of double heading/ multiple heading this implies individual entities (intelligences) to be in control of each separate engine. But if I recall correctly I believe it was the B&O that experimented with MUing Steam engines(did not work). And I have seen you admonish people here on the toy train forums reminding them that we are talking about toy trains.
Noe on the "REAL" train forum MU and double/multiple heading is what is appropriate no question. But there is always a but. A recently retired diesel engineer (train driver) always does use the term lashup. I have never heard him say MU. And since he is NOT a 3-railer, does not use TMCC and/or DCS where he get this term? One day I will ask him.
Oh yes I know you are having fun! But I need some fun too. But seriously I DO think "lashup" is a good toy train term covering that possess of getting multiple toy train engines to act as one electronically via ONE controller and person. And that is what ALL the toy train manuals call it.
Ron, having fun.
