Legacy MU running in stereo

I bought a pair of BN SD40-2 powered units. After gluing back on all the parts that lionel evidently forgot to glue, they added to my legacy set just fine, and run fine individually. I tried to create a "train" with them, and followed the legacy instructions. All the audio is coming from both of them... horn, bell, towercom, etc...

The icons on the screen appear correct (lead engine has the crown, horn and mic icons above it, the trailing engine has no icons). I've tried deleting the train and re-creating it with a different number, to no avail. This is the first time I've attempted this with 2 powered units, I'm a Legacy noob, but I tried following the directions on pages 60-62 of the manual. I didnt have the engines in PGM when I did this, but it looks like they should have been in run. Directionally, they appear to work (the trailer runs backwards just fine and the marker lights illuminate correctly), which leads me to think I did at least some of it right.

Did you assign different engine ID#"s or did you give both engines the same ID?

They have different IDs. I just used the last 2 numbers in the cab number like the lionel video guy suggests.

I've had this happen with several newer legacy engines. The double horn is nice but the tower com is not the same. I put the tower com on the rear engine and that solves the problem.

I like to run the horn and engine sounds on both and then have the crewtalk from a single engine. My Legacy U-Boats programmed that way with no issues, as did my pair of Conrail SD-80's.

I think you're close, you just have to get the audio configuration right.

Called lionel for help this morning, they walked me through the same steps I followed last night, and it worked. Think the problem was that when you name the train, it asks you to enter a road number... by entering the train the same number as the lead engine, it gives the whole thing one number and you're sunk.

So if you give the train an ID number thats not one of the engine ID numbers, and then just hit "OK" when it asks for a road number, it seems to work just fine.
