Drew, here's a quick chart showing Legacy desired RR Speed commands vs. absolute speed steps for TMCC and Legacy engines, as read from the remote. The SMPH info for Legacy engines is only viewable by reading the port. No SMPH info is tagged for TMCC stuff:
Norm, one comment. The RR Spends in right hand are for Legacy v1.0 and 1.1. As of V1.2 the RR speeds are 5, 20, 35, 50, and 70.

Sorry Norm your list of Lionel official railroad speed does not reflect the info online in the Legacy manual V1.5. (I see Ron comment is that info is from the original manual V1.0)
V1.2? I am running 1.5x02 on my remote and 1.4x4 on the base. Also says Cab V1.4 and Base V1.4. Am I out of date here?

Interesting, maybe the s/w I have is assigning the speed tags. Here's manual 1.2 on the left vs. 1.5 on the right:

Interesting the legacy drift at high speeds. The other is TAS, that also drifts a lot loaded versus unloaded and TAS uses cruise with a tach.
So please do some basic Lionel or Atlas TMCC no cruise engines. G

That's nothing, I just discovered the automation mode or whatever it is when you hold down AUX-1 for a few seconds. My newish PRR H16-44 has it and was pleasantly surprised when my K4 could do it too..! I bought the FM to use for testing my trackwork and wiring.
No Norm,the way the IR sensor mount in the track it works on any scale track.unless you want to inform them for there info for possible future product you may try....

I suspect that a bit of wheel slippage would account for the small changes in speed.
