Bill,

You can run a LionChief engine on any track system that puts out 18 volts AC or DC on the track.  LionChief can run off the DC wall wort supplied with it or off any AC transformer.

LionChief engines can NOT be run in conventional, they can only be controlled with the hand held.  You can run a LionChief engine with less than 18 volts on the track.  I have run mine at 15 volts to keep certain young people from running my Area 51 diesel off the tracks and it worked fine.

LionChief Plus locomotives are different.  They can run either with the handheld or conventionally with a transformer.  They also have speed control, great sound systems, and both the diesels and steamers are equipped with electro-couplers.

Hope this helps.

Bill, Landsteiner pretty much said it there.

You can operate any Lionchief or Lionchief Plus engine on a TMCC/Legacy layout with no issues so long as you use the supplied Lionchief remote. It's like having a mini CAB 2 remote that just controls one engine.

I have the polar express set with the Lionchief remote and I run it on a layout with MTH's DCS system all the time. I think it's super cool!

Cheers!
