Atlas O makes an 8,000 gallon tanker, and one of the paint schemes a couple years ago was Lion Oils. I haven't been able to find any info on this company. The main thing I'm trying to determine is whether the "Oils" pertains to cooking oils or petroleum.
Anyone have any info? Perhaps a clue exists in the tankers markings?

Lion Oil is a small producer of petroleum products located in El Dorado, Arkansas. Lionel has also produced a tank car and a diesel fueling accessory badged with Lion Oil markings. A brief company history can be found at this link. Pat B.

LPB007: thanks for the informative link. I just wasn't sure that Lion Oils and Lion Oil was the same company. The lettering style on the Atlas tanker doesn't match any other Lion Oil images I've seen.
However the reporting mark on the Atlas tanker, LUX, belongs to Tosco, which is mentioned in your article as the parent company.

We had a Lion gas station in town until the mid to late 60's. I can remember seeing the Lion sign. Got torn down to build a church. Small town of about 5500 people in rural Alabama....
