Thanks, Picked this engine up really cheap. Had to change the frame. The last issue is chuffing. I don't know why! nut it lols like I have to shim the switch bracket. The switch stays activated when mounted in the normal fashion.

Adjusting the chuff micro switch is not unusual. Often you can carefully bend the lever arm or as you say, adjust the bracket. Some brackets allow slight bending which can work.

I've used many micro switches over the years. The bracket has to be raised a bit. As bending the tang on the micro switch will not help.

You'd be wrong for all the ones I've fixed.  Most of the time, the bracket is fixed with no adjustment possible.  However, I have adjusted many of them successfully by bending the actuating lever.

Sort of stated that wrong! Yep, if it works out of the box should require not raising the switch. I was curious as the cherry switch itself...looked a bit long for the application. There was no way the adjustment on the metal contact portion on the 

Switch cherry was going to correct this problem. so, I actually called Lionel on this one. The tech stated if the micro switch had been replaced at some point . The current switch my not be correct...or to long. I actually do think that is the issue.

Thanks for the help on the nightmare on elm street engine.  It turned out that I need to shorten the metal actuator on the cherry switch. It would hang on the edge of the opening for the switch....

now, the last thing is to find a proper screw for the scale coupler that is missing. Thanks for all the help!
