I'm not usually a big fan of fantasy paint schemes, but this one I kinda like!

Sorta like the first one??

I mean, in a certain sense, every paint scheme starts out as someone's "fantasy paint scheme".  It grabs someone.  It's blessed by management.  It gets slathered over everything.  Then it becomes 'the norm'.

Then some rube comes along who wants to change it into something more...fantastic.

I'll bet the same was mumbled around the pot-bellied stove in the general store when someone dared to suggest that automobiles be painted something besides black!

I remember an editorial in Model Railroader magazine about 50+ years ago ruminating on the ethics embodied in the new-fangled idea of fantasy paint schemes for steam engines.  Some manufacturer had dared to put Penn Central and its noodle scheme on the tender of a steam engine.  The world was coming to an end.  'Sacrilege!!'  'Fie on these fantastic fiends, I say!!!'  'Off with their heads!!'

A few years later, the Reading T-1 all dolled up in Chessie colors for the first time came through our town on C&O tracks.  Some of the most outspoken fantasy paint scheme critics in the local model railroad club were tripping over their tongues trying to jockey for primo run-by photo positions as she pounded by.  All smiles, of course.  All forgiven.  Looked pretty good, didn't she?  Who sez lipstick doesn't work on a....oh, never mind.

I think the cab-forward in Daylight colors looks snazzy, too!  In fact, I especially applaud all of the merger fantasy schemes.

Hey, for someone who bleeds red/yellow/silver for the iconic Warbonnet scheme....and then finds it applied to everything from E1's to doorstop bricks!!!!!...what's a fellow/gal supposed to do????

Carry on.......and look forward to the next fantasy scheme....that's what!

I mentioned when I decided to order this engine that I intended to use it for passenger service. I recently acquired a set of K-Line 21" Daylight Lightweight passenger cars that arrived this past week. What I like about the K-Lines are the nice ribbed effect and excellent colors. I am partial to K-Lines anyway.

Should be a beautiful passenger train.

I really enjoy reading the posts of other forum members that are SP fans! I really enjoy it that Lionel, MTH, k-line, 3rdrail and various other companies are producing great models of the SP... I wish i knew more modelers in my are that modeled the SP in O scale that i could get together with here in Oregon. Thanks again for the Pics and video clips everyone!

Whoops, must have missed that show but I never get to go to them except once in a blue moon (no reference to the GM Train of Tomorrow color intended there, honest). Anyway PTC if Lionel DO have the Daylight cab forward at York perhaps I can add that to my personal application to you for photos!

Lionel did have the cab forward Daylight steamer on a display shelf at their York booth.  Unfortunately it wasn't running on the display layout Thursday -- at least not that I saw whenever I stopped by the booth.    Seems the Big Boy was taking all the honors, which after awhile was getting pretty old IMHO.

Anyway, I got a nice close-up look at the cab forward Daylight, and all I can say is I'm definitely glad I have one on pre-order.  This is one sweet locomotive.    And the fact that it's a fantasy scheme for this locomotive is completely irrelevant.  This will be a hands-down winner, even though it wasn't a BTO product.  Detail level is excellent, and the price is right for a Lionel articulated locomotive with whistle-steam.  I plan to pair mine with the Lionel 18" aluminum Daylight 7-car passenger set produced in 2005, and folks will never know they were produced almost 10 years apart.
