After seeing these were in stock at Charles Ro, excellent price by the way, I ordered them earlier this week.

Then I began to read the threads on this forum regarding the arrival of this round of production of the 21" passenger cars, and my heart sank and I began to be meaningfully concerned that I had made a huge mistake. That fear only grew as the days passed and more thread / comments came in.

Today became the day truth, would I be forever saddened by what might have been, or perhaps pleased that the comments / threads denoting the countless failures point were perhaps over blown.

The answer is.....

Well, not just yet, to give some context. I have roughly 100 21" passenger cars, these are mostly K-line, with the Atlas CZ, and a couple dozen GGD. You'll notice I didn't mention Lionel, I own, zero Lionel passenger cars. I have been a fan of the Lionel 89' box cars, auto racks, and their PS-4 flat cars, but otherwise, not a loyalist or fan boy.

With that said, these cars are as good out of the box as any I've seen. The underside detailing is well done and more detailed than K-Line, although not on par with Atlas or GGD. The paint is well done with clean lines and no meaningful issues. There are a few very, very, minor marks -- those were kindly noted on one car with arrows from Lionel or perhaps Ro, which I found odd, but even those are extremely minor.

I love the green and white cars, they are vastly different than any other cars I own, and I'm really happy to add them to the fleet. The interiors are blue, which is also different and stands out in a good way. The finish of the stainless cars in inferior to that of the K-Line cars, but those are in a league above all others, the stainless finish is as good if not slightly better than MTH, or Atlas.

Here are photos of every car. I will not be able to run them as the layout is currently being rebuilt, the long run of 35' is homasote, so soon, but until then I will leave it to others to comment on their operations.2018-03-16 14.54.272018-03-16 14.54.312018-03-16 14.55.482018-03-16 14.55.562018-03-16 14.57.592018-03-16 14.58.292018-03-16 14.59.332018-03-16 14.59.362018-03-16 15.07.302018-03-16 15.07.492018-03-16 15.10.442018-03-16 15.10.49

Nice set if it wasn't for those Dome cars with Full size Windows underneath the dome section!

Here is the other side, just happened that my cars were all facing the hallway side towards the camera earlier.  I know the real 555 has a couple of smaller windows on the hallway side vs the Lionel, but I am forgiving of a few non exact features in order to see these sets made in varieties of roadnames.  I am enjoying this train very much.   20180320_02024720180320_020148

J. Daddy --

This is funny, I plan to run these mixed with three of the four Amtrak cars from the Lionel set as a rainbow era Empire Builder. Between the three sets the only unused car will be the Amtrak baggage, so I'll end up with three domes, several coaches, baggage, and a sleeper, 9 cars in all. Amtrak "bloody nose" E8s for the motive power.

The GN Empire Builder is one of the my all time favorites. I have the classic orange and green Empire Builder from both K-line and Golden Gate Depot, so I felt this was by best option to add another "Empire Builder" to the fleet.

Don't forget to add some UP cars to that rainbow train. UP and BN equipment was everywhere in the rainbow years.

On the Cincinnati Western R.R. -- Amtrak has partnered with the BN, to bring additional service to Glacier NP, but the NP, GN, Mil Rd, UP, and Santa Fe are all still offering service to all parts west. While the Amtrak, PRR, NYC, and B&O are offering service back east.

A rainbow era consist is my plan also.  I will mix a K-Line sky blue GN dome,GGD SP sunset coach, GGD NP coach, various Amtrak phase 1 equipment from GGD, Atlas, K-line, & Lionel with a few of these BN cars.  Ordered the Lionel 2 pack due later this year to complete the look.  May see a Penn Central coach make its way west too.
