Hi Friends: I have Lionel BW-80 transformer from about 2000 & the "power on" bulb in the controller box finally gave. Does anyone know how to change this bulb & which one its is, number-wise? The green lens cover apparently does not screw off. Perhaps it would pry off? There is a thread here asking the same question from about 2015, but it never came to a definitive answer & is now closed to new comments. The owner's pamphlet doesn't mention bulb replacement, as I guess Lionel deems the transformer controller box as "non-user serviceable."

BTW, a photo from the 2015 post about the BW, shows that the bulb plugs into a socket on the board. It looks like the socket for a recent-vintage incandescent miniature Christmas tree bulb. If it is, can an LED be found that will fit the same socket?
Silly me in thinking maybe the green bezel just unscrews like on postwar transformers...
Can you get the controller apart? You may need a special screwdriver to do so. Once the case is off, the bulb should be easy to change.

It doesn't unscrew. I wondered if anyone knows if it prys out.
I took mine apart a long time ago. I think I used a regular Phillips head screwdriver and took the case off. From what I recall I just stuck a 18v passenger car bulb in the socket and it worked fine.

Thanks! (So, the green lens does not either pry or screw off, then? Darn!)
