I have a 2004 Lionel Trains calendar hanging in my office area which is open to the March 2004 photo of a Santa Fe Diesel engine.  I realize that the calendar is slightly out of date, but I like the Santa Fe diesel paint scheme.

The photo tends to depict a passenger train running through a beach area.  There are sunbathers on a towel at the edge of the track ballast area and another family getting ready to set up for a picnic.  The rocky background might indicate a desert scene instead of a beach area.  Two yellow trash cans are in the picture, as well as a set of stairs to go up to the train.  I would hope that those who choose to sunbath and picnic that close to the rails are train enthusiasts ( I think the OGR term is "foamer").

I have often wondered if the scene depicted by the artist was pure imagination or has someone on the forum actually seen a train location that operates right at the edge of a sandy recreation area?

There are two locations along the Northeast Corridor in Connecticut where the train passes along a beach. The most famous one is at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme, CT and was a frequent subject of photographers in the days of the New Haven Railroad. A short distance away, the tracks pass along a beach on Niantic Bay in Niantic, CT. I took the picture below of Rocky Neck Beach from an Amtrak train on the way to Boston... On a warm summer day it is jammed with beach goers.
