Its supposed come from the stack. Sounds like the stack is blocked. 

Odd...I looked in it and did not see anything.

I hope that it is smoke fluid making the smoke and not some sort of electrical wire insulation burning.

The odor would be a dead giveaway.  I don't believe anyone has come out with a "Burnt Electrical" scent.

I'd start with the easy stuff. Have you tried blowing down the stack in case flied is trapped blocking the outlet to the stack?

Man this little engine is a great runner!

I wish it was a little bit bigger though, as the tender looks too big for it.

ok, next question, how the heck do you turn the smoke unit on and off with a Legacy handheld?

There are no symbols for smoke.

Is it a command locomotive?  If so it'll be the #8 key place to turn off and #9 key place to turn it on.  If it's a conventional locomotive, you have to find the switch on the bottom of the engine.

Or + and -.  On and off respectively if running in TMCC mode.

The fan will NOT shut off. Just the heating element.

Correct TMCC mode, pressing the number keys causes the ENG ID to change.

You have to "fully address" the locomotive,i.e. enter the id# and start it up.

 

Then you will have icons for+ on and - off.

 

This is the same as the 8 and 9 position which is also where the smoke on and off icons for legacy are represented when addressing a legacy loco.
