I have a Lionel F3 6-24529 (6-24530) that is having a problem. While it is running the sound will sometimes stop working, then it will come back on. All other things seem to work fine, lights, smoke, forward, reverse, etc. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I don’t have any test equipment so this might require a trip to “The Train Doctor”. As I stated this is a intermittent problem.

Ed, I am not familiar with that particular engine, conventional or Legacy/TMCC? I run the Legacy system and American Flyer, and did have problems similar to yours caused by weak signal in areas on the layout. I added the ground plane which helped tremendously. Still had a few spots with just a couple of engines, l ordered a signal booster from gunrunnerjohn, seemed to smooth out everything. Again this worked for me with TMCC/Legacy not conventional.

One issue is a momentary glitch in the power coming to the RS board. The cure is to install the battery for the RS board, that should prevent the dropouts. Of course, I typically use my own creation to permanently replace the battery, YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement.
Like John said battery give continuing voltage also open engine and pull the sound board and put it back to make better connection last cleaning your track could help last check pick up roller to make sure one is not stuck in the up position commen on that model f3
