Hi all,
I am having issues with the engine from the Gold Bonnet set. The engine’s cab light will begin blinking whenever I try to run it. And when it did move, the gears were making a loud clicking sound. Upon reading the manual, it says that there is an issue with the motor.

Start with the obvious, check for crap in the truck gears.

Looking at the gears, they look clean. It has been acting up since I got it. Did have to glue the curved trim piece on one of the side windows back on shortly after opening the box.

Make sure the screw that holds the motor on is tight under the truck.
How do I access the motor mount screws? Will I have to take the shell off?

Ignore the last, this one has the twist-off trucks, so no motor mount screw.

I don't know what to do, so I have left it alone, unfortunately. I have never worked on modern Lionel before and I am not familiar with 'Twist-off' trucks.
Try removing the shell to look for low hanging wires etc. I had a wire clip come loose and hit the flywheel plastic sensor ring causing a clicking noise and eventually jamming the motor. Too much money to be a shelf queen. Good luck. If all else fails email one of the guys always offering repair help here and see if you could send to them for repair quote.
As of yesterday, I was able to find and fix the problem. It was a tiny screw that attaches to the front motor's flywheel. It was sticking out and hitting the plastic part that hides the motor in the front of the locomotive. The locomotive now runs properly, and no longer is a shelf queen.
