Forum Members,

I am pleased to announce that as of today, December 6, 2013, Lionel has completed the corrective actions required to our LEGACY 6-8-6 S-2 Steam Turbines.

If you remember we had an extremely unfortunate event plague us on these locomotives, they arrived with wet packaging.

As of today we have completed the work required to get these engines back in stock (in good conscience!). The locomotives still maintain their cool features; Legacy, Odyssey II Speed Control, Legacy Railsounds, Fan Driven Synchronized Smoke, Smaller Infrared tether, Electrocoupler on the rear of the tender. Die-Cast Boiler, Die-Cast Frame, Die-Cast Pilot & Trailing  Trucks, Die-Cast Tender Trucks, Die-Cast Tender Shell, Stamped Metal Tender Frame and Dual 50mm FatBoy Speakers.

The shipping cartons, Orange boxes, inner Styrofoam (and all contents in the Styrofoam, including the manual) are all brand new. The locomotives and tenders in the boxes are also pristine! The production run is now the way it should have been the first time!

I am letting everyone know this because if you still wish to own a LEGACY S-2 Turbine you still can (before Christmas even!). Contact your favorite dealer now!

We have the following S2 Turbines available;

6-11415 Undecorated (Pilot) LEGACY S-2 Turbine

6-11416 PRR LEGACY S-2 Turbine #6200

6-11417 PRRLEGACY S-2 Turbine #6200 (Builder Scheme)

6-11432 Lionel Lines Legacy S-2 Turbine #671

6-11433 PRR LEGACY S-2 Turbine #682

On a side note, please rest assured that we have tracked down the root cause of this problem and have implemented steps to ensure this problem does not plague us moving forward!

Thank you,

Mike Reagan

Sorry to hear this is coming out now, the wifey just paid the bill from Legacy on a bunch of cars and a PRR heritage unit  and on top of it I have a GS4 due in January, O well, hopefully I can snag one down the road someday. There is a lot out there right now I like to have, Lionel, Sunset and a small amount of MTH. I will need to put off retirement for another year it looks like.

Very true, John.  I can't recall a year when so many dealers have had trains "on sale" during December.  Come to think of it, I'm not sure I can think of a December when ANY dealer had trains "on sale".  After Dec 25th, yes.  But never before Christmas in December.

No reason whatsoever to pay "premium" prices for anything these days, as long as the importers continue to bring increased amounts of product out year-after-year.  We just can't absorb everything that's out there right now... and that includes LOTS of choices of things on sale -- ranging from blow-out prices to modest sale prices.

P.S.  For those who still want the S2, I'm very glad to see Lionel was able to salvage production and subsequent delivery of this locomotive.  I'd be curious as well if these are net new product or if they are refurbs (i.e., checked for problems and found to be clear of any issues that plagued many of the early buyers).

I think this is a valid question.

The additional ones just announced that are now "available".  Were they cleaned and gone over, additional productions, or some other.  I'm fine either way knowing they went through Lionel and Mike's hands but I still think Sinclair has a valid question.

"They" are the engines that were originally received in the production run several months ago. Each model was unboxed, then disassembled and gone through with a fine toothed comb to ensure there was no moisture, rust or mildew inside the cavity of the loco, tender, smoke unit, gearbox, speaker enclosure, etc. The locomotives and tenders sat inside tubs full of rice for over 3 weeks to ensure any possible moisture was gone. Any sign of rust and the part was replaced (including screws, collectors, smoke batting, speakers, etc.) Then each model was reassembled, tested in Legacy and conventional to ensure all features were operational, including smoke. Then each product was repackaged in new Styrofoam, received a new Orange box and new shipping carton.

All of this took place in NC, at an off site facility by the vendor who produced the product (with oversight from Lionel). The reason this project took so long was the coordination from the vendor overseas, procuring and subsequently shipping the materials to the States and then finding a suitable off site location in the vicinity to perform the job. Logistics, what a joy!

Nevertheless, the models are back in stock and available for sale. We feel bad that some folks were unable to acquire one of these models as a result of the issues they suffered, but that is now behind us and we are happy to report these models are once again available for those who wish to be the proud new owner of one!

Thanks,

Mike
