I did not even know that one was coming out! (I used to get the the Lionel catalog from the LHS, but have not since I moved over a year ago.)

I just looked at Charles Ro - they list four Shays:

Why four different prices instead of just two; does the roadname make the difference?

The lower priced ones are conventional only operation, and apparently yes road name is impacting their pricing. Which road name do they have priced higher?

Very desirable, though the chuff rate seems a bit slow for a Shay - of course my old K-line 2-trucker really has a machine-gun rate. I presume that this is the same loco, part deux.

My K-line is one of my worse runners, strictly because, at Shay-appropriate slow-speed operation, the least little thing interferes with the electrical pickup, and it stops (I presume center-rail; could be ground). Adding a third pickup is "on the list".

It seems by your video that the Lionel version has no such problem.
How many pickups?

I will check the rollers when I get back on Sunday.

Shays are awesome (and designed by a guy from Michigan). Wish I could afford one of the new Lionel ones, I guess I'll just have to get by with my Bachmann G scale one

Thanks Charlie, It's hard to type on a smart phone, no WiFi on the York fair grounds.
My K-Line shay is a great runner, it is also my slowest runner. I have run it on at least four other layouts.

Is there a setting to adjust the chuff to the correct cadence?

Change it to what? It's got the shay chuffing, not the traditional 4/revolution of a normal engine.

Just the whistle alone makes me want it. I love shays but they are so dang expensive

I'm not that familar with Shays in general. I just have the impression that this model's chuff rate rate is a bit slow. I just wanted to hear from others who might be more knowledgeable on this subject.

How does this new Legacy model compare with older Shay offerings from Lionel? MTH?
