It was mentioned that the scale Mountain type engine is making a return in the upcoming Lionel catalog.  I don’t think it will be offered in UP livery.  Below is a picture of a UP Mountain.  My question is....Is the Vanderbilt tender behind this engine the same as the tender available with Lionel’s 4-12-2?

If so I will keep my fingers crossed for a future release!

Thank you.

It is certainly very similar and both are apparently typical UP Vandy practice. They may be different tender classes with differing capacities, but probably close enough.

They would indeed be "close enough", as the USRA Light 4-8-2 definitely isn't a UP prototype, so we don't want to strain at gnats and swallow camels. I hope they offer it for you - when you can't get accuracy, reasonable "close enough" is pretty nice.

Lonely tenders and Lionel 4-8-2's do show up on eBay and the like; mix-n-match can be fun.
