Just opened a never run 6-14596 New Haven Alco PA from 2005 Vol. II catalog. Tested power unit. Assigned new ID's to each unit and then created lash up. Power unit responds to lash up commands. However, dummy rear unit headlight and coupler do not. Dummy unit does respond to commands when addressed with its engine ID. Am using a Legacy control system and have created the lash up using steps specified in Legacy control manual and steps in the Locomotive instruction booklet. Both produce same results. Have reset each unit and rebuilt the lash up with same results. What am I doing incorrectly? I have 19 Legacy locomotives and 10 TMCC locomotives but am far from an expert and this is the only problem I have. Am using a Legacy base but no TMCC base.

Dave;
The one thing I can think of off the top of my head is what number did you give to the lash up??? If I remember correctly, TMCC lash ups can only use numbers 1 - 9 (or possibly 10).
Paul,
Thanks for the reply. My understanding of TMCC lash up numbers is the same as yours. The lash up number in this case is 2.
I don't use the lashup method. I do this: Start with the lead unit. Program it using ENG. Remove from track. Put the dummy on the track, facing backwards. Program it using the same ENG number you gave the powered unit. Place both units back on the track as you would to run them. Key in the ENG number you gave them on the remote. Roll 'em out! You should have full functionality (couplers, etc) plus directional lighting.
Greg,
Thanks for the suggestion. It worked.
GREAT! Boom goes the dynamite!
I have three Alco PA sets, two TMCC and one Legacy. Worked for all three.
Enjoy!
Some of the A-A sets were actually designed to be used in that fashion with identical ENG numbers.
