Lionel Polar Express Tender 6-11151 and its Tom Hanks dialogue

That's it. You get a few consecutive "all aboard"s, it's random how many repeat.

After that the next press is "this is the polar express".

The latest scale pe berk has a ton more movie dialogue.

I have the 11151 and I find the two bits of Tom hanks is enough. Imo some of the added dialogue belongs off of the train,but I'm picking nits.

Having said all that, I find the locomotive sound on the 11151 to be better, particularly the chuff. Many recent locos have been sharing the same chuff. The 11151 tender is different and more realistic because I believe it was sampled from the real 1225.

Now I know what to expect (don't like surprises); thought there would be more dialogue from Tom BUT I will pursue the 6-11151 anyway.

You would think that Lionel could service the tender and load the latest dialogue; any such luck??

I'm not sure ,but I think the newer legacy railsounds boards are a bit different than the early legacy stuff like the 11151 tender from 08.

I don't think the railsounds chip in the new pe tender would work in the older 11151 tender.

I have my eye on a 6-11151 tender new in the box but have no way of knowing how you determine year of manufacture; is there any way to know this from the box?

However, I have a deal going with a new one in the box; nonetheless, if that falls thru I will tap you on the shoulder.  Do you know its date of manufacture and how much of Tom Hanks dialogue is in it??

I bought it and the pere Marquette engine/tender bit have not gotten to run either as of yet, so I can't comment on the sounds. Layout in kind of a dismantled state right now. 

Person I bought it from said that it was run no more than a few hrs and both were purchased at the same time. So I'd say 08-09

That's exactly the configuration I am trying to build; I have the Pere Marquette engine and its Marquette tender but want to replace the tender with the Polar Express one.  I will know on Jan 6 if I can get the new one in the box.

Lionel only did one one run of PE tenders in 08.

FYI some of these tenders had a defective backup light that would flash in reverse until it eventually went out.

There was a resistor missing in the wiring harness. If you buying "new old stock" you "might" be able to ask Lionel if they could send you one free of charge. I've gotten lucky on a few out of warranty instances.

Either way its a simple remove the shell and unplug the old and plug in the new repair. The bulb and wiring harness is available. PE Tender Parts

You could also just stick the resistor in the backup light if you're already taking the harness out.

One more thing ( almost forgot). The newer legacy berks have the infra red on the top of the drawbar while the older ones are underneath.

There was a forum post by FRED T with excellent photos and turotial on how to move the infra red on the PE tender to the top of the drawbar.
