Hey guys-This ones for the PW experts here... My question involves the Variation A (Black/Yellow) 2331 FM. I'm trying to figure out which configuration is factory correct for this unit(and it may be both-transitional). In 1955, Lionel changed the magnetic disks on the chassis from a one piece(solid steel) to a two piece sintered iron. The 1954's (Lackawanas) also had their lights mounted on the motors. In '55, the light brackets were out in front of the motors. As this model was introduced in early '55, I'm curious as to any opinions on which configuration would be 'correct.' I've seen several pix ebay/ Stout, etc. with it BOTH ways. Guessing transitional and while it shouldn't matter(to some)-factory correct does with me. A sad affliction only a collector can appreciate.(:-) In short, if any of you possess a C-8 or better original boxed unit, perhaps you can give me an idea based on yours. I do realize many shells were switched out over the years with different frames...

Thanks in advance(Happy Holidays)!

Thanks Guys---Thanks for the info, Big John(I believe you are right- (good luck for anyone finding a boxed, SEALED 2331A)- though I'm beginning to think these two features were transition(this variation was very early '55) and either variation may be correct). Frank-the TWO disks are on the bottom of the trucks-one on each side-under the coupler. Nice pix, thanks for posting!
