Just picked up a new Lionel Sante Fe Northern 4-8-4 #3751 (6-11322) at a super price.

However, there is an annoying squeak that seems in sync with the driver wheels rotating.  I gently oiled everything and still there, so my guess is that it might be the traction tire sliding across the vertical separator ever so slightly between the drivers.  Anyone had this problem and solved it?

Also, the thin wire connected to the bell enters the cab through a small hole.  This was pulled out so I just stuck it back in.  I assume it's not supposed to be attached to anything in the cab?

So far, very nice model.  Just gotta get rid of that squeak!

Thanks

I had the same problem on my vision line Hudson.  Checked and oiled everything and still the rhythmic squeak.  Turned out to be the traction tire rubbing slightly against the simulated brake shoe.  Luckily those brake shoes were attached to the body with a screw.  loosened the screw and then tightened and just that little amount of repositioning solved it.  Look for traction tire rubbing.

Thanks Sean! That was exactly the issue. I loosened the screws for both the front and rear brake shoes on both sides of the rear drivers and slid a small slotted screwdriver blade between the driver and the shoe while I tightened the screw. Squeak is gone.
