just got a brand new one of these and everything works ok except the volume of the diesel engine is not very loud. I have the volume control full and the volume up with touch pad #1. Is this normal. I would say it is about 1/2 of the steamers I have. Would the use of speed steps and the load steps do for diesel what it does for steam?

I had this issue a couple of times.
I think if you press Aux1 the 1 & 4 icons will light up, while they
remain on you press #1 to raise the volume of the diesel sounds.
good luck.
This engine has another way to raise and lower volume. Press the horn on your Legacy remote one time and then start pressing number 1 on the keypad until it gets to full sound. Press the horn one time then number four to decrease sound.
when you say press the horn you mean slide the horn control one time don't you. mine does not pressl
Wow, this seems to be a common problem with this loco. If none of the suggestions from the forum members work, I suggest you send the loco back for a replacement or your money back. This is another reason why I refuse to buy new locos!!!!
Don't forget that modern diesel locomotives are a fair bit quieter than older ones, and quieter than some steam locomotives too. If the horn, bell and other sounds are at a 'normal' volume, then it may be perfectly correct.

this is not a problem with this or any other loco.
see Nicole's post!!!!
please do not come here to knock a manufacture.
Obviously if you run Legacy you will slide it down. Do it and it will work.
That did not help but going to the speed steps menu and raising the load volume made a big change in volume. I just have to remember to got there when I power it up and change from light load to heavy.
Big Dodge,
This is the 3rd or 4th post I've read on this forum regarding the same problem with this loco!!! This time it was easily resolved.
