Guys/Gals, I buy Lionel and MTH and want to pass this one on. MTH has the tooling done to do the SD60E. The MTH guys/gals will also be able to purchase this engine and will not be left out. MTH is also doing the locomotive for the 2 rail guys/gals. This comes from an expert source at MTH.
Nice Engines for sure, but the price! Ouch! Are they now making these by hand? This seems outrageous in my opinion.

Marty, Thank you for the information. Nice to know that MTH is making the SD60e’s too. I assume they will be in their 2016 Volume 1 Cat. I buy both Lionel and MTH too…so it makes it little harder to know which one to purchase. Preorders for Lionel are due before the MTH catalog comes out in late October so we won’t know the details of MTH model in order to make decision to buy from Lionel or MTH.

Marty, that's good news! How often has your source been correct in the past? I would hate to pass on the Lionel and not be able to get the MTH version in the near future.
One hundred percent accurate.
I was thinking the same thing. This is first time that I can remember that Lionel pre-orders are due before the MTH catalog is released (or vice versa).
I am wondering whether this helps either company or hurts one of them. Marty's announcement indicates that for the SD60E's people will have a choice.
Nearly everyone has limited funds. I think most people (I do) peruse both catalogs and then allocate their spending budget. That's not going to be possible this time.
I hope Lionel's SD60E will have that semi-fixed pilot like their ES44 heritage units have. It is a very nice feature. If not, I might go with the MTH version. It's nice to have choices.
At 19" long and O36 minimum curve, I doubt it.
Specific crew talk to the Veterans and First Responders would seal the deal for me though.
Perhaps Rudy could chime in

Awesome. That is great news. Thank You!
MTH just SENT OUT their O Gauge newsletter out with a photo of the cab of NS 9-1-1.
Now operators will have a choice.
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Can you post the MTH news letter with the pictures of the SD60E?
Regards,
Frank
Wow, these NS Locomotives will be very fitting on my layout as I live 3 minutes from Fort Campbell Kentucky, Home of the Screaming Eagles!!!! Thanks for Posting!!
I just signed up for the MTH newsletter but I don't think they'll send the one with the picture of the SD60E in it. Hopefully someone who received the newsletter can post the picture on here.
Trevor
The MTH newsletter shows a prototype photo of the top part of the SD60E 9-1-1 crew cabin. They will save the model mock-up for the Catalog.
Andrew
Might it be possible to post the teaser so we can see it? I'm dying to see this

Ah a picture of the real prototype, not their prototype. Misunderstood. Now we have to go back to playing the waiting game again....
Thanks for the picture
Trevor
NS calls the widecab on the SD60E's a Crescent cab. The Admiral cab is similar to an EMD standard cab

No. The admiral cab is used on standard cabs. The windshield tilts outward at the top.
After looking through the new Lionel catalog, it appears Lionel's description is "Newly tooled body and crescent cab".... this leads me to believe the new body will be utilizing the previous SD60/70 series frame, so just a heads up. Based on this, it does not appear to be a retooled loco in its entirety...
