You just have to keep tension on the boom so the strings don't get loose and come off the pulleys. It really creates a mess that will take you quite some time to sort out! Don't ask me how I know this.

Thanks John, this will fix my temperamental outriggers as well.
That's how I fixed mine, but I rarely fire them. After you deploy them, you have to manually stuff them back in.

MTH makes a really small HO smoke unit that would be perfect for such a task.
