Lionel TMCC Mogul problem?

I wonder about the wireless tether. I don't know why you would get engine sounds, but maybe that sounds even though the tether is not working to the tender for all the missing features from the engine receiver.

 

I just switched the R2LC boards and still the same thing.  I did the Prog and engine to the new board, still the same outcome.  Engine sounds but no whistle, no chuff, etc. 

 

CJACK, is there something I can do with the tether?  Thanks.

I don't know except check to see if it transmits IR from the engine with your cell phone camera. Then inside the tender there is a receiver board that can be swapped out. For most of this stuff, spare parts are the best answer.

I had the same problem with a Lionel Yard Goat 0-8-0 switcher. The problem turn out to be a faulty wireless tether on the engine. I ordered the replacement part from Lionel installed it and all is well now. To verify this was the problem I used a tender from another engine. I also verified the tender worked connecting it to a different engine.

  I did what MDUPPY suggested and with another tender did the same thing.  I inspected the tether and pushed and made sure all was inline and clean.  Put back on track with different tender and low and behold it worked!!!  I then put the Mogul tender on the tracks, that too worked as well.  I still have the other R2LC board in engine should I leave it or change it?

Laz1957, if it were my engine, I would leave it in if it is working. Also, I would make sure that the mogul R2LC is will work in the "donor" engine just to be on the safe side. Thanks,

I suspect there may have been some sort of loose connection from the description.  One issue I've seen several times is broken wires on the IR sensor on the tender drawbar, and also the locomotive IR LED.  Those are an easy fix, I just cut off the heat-shrink, fix it, and put new heat-shrink on the drawbar.
