I wanted to order some detail parts from the Lionel Vision Hudson to cosmetically upgrade an older Hudson of mine, but have been told Lionel does not make these parts available until all the warranties are up on the engines. Does anyone know when that will be, or of another way to get a hold of Vision Line Hudson parts?

These were cataloged in 2010, I believe Lionels warranty is 2 years on vision line stuff and the warranty coverage is for purchases made within 3 years from the catalog date, so possibly another year or two to go if you consider that someone who bought one early this year would have a two year warranty.
Catalogued April 2010, shipped June 2011.
Contacting Lionel will get you a far more accurate answer than the forum.

It was cataloged in the Vol 1 signature catalog of 2010, spring of 2010.
Heres a link to the VL hudson owners manual, scroll down to the last page. The warranty period is as I stated above.

I contacted Lionel before I started this thread. As usual, "I have no idea" is all the customer service people can ever tell me when I have a question like this.
Anyway, sounds like the initial 2 year warranties are technically up as of this month. So now we have to wait an additional year for any remaining ones to run out? And did anyone actually get the extended warranties?
Warranty is two years from date engine was registered. Just got lucky myself in that my VL Hudsons smoke unit decided to quit and luckily engine still under warranty (just a few weeks left for me).
As for parts, I would think Lionel would have a decent supply, as rather than produce a
limited supply of just common repair parts, they disassemble completed engines.
If I were Lionel, and I'm not, I would hold all VL parts for folks that are registered engine owners or who return a VL engine for repair.
It would be a shame that there would be no parts available because someone wanted to detail and old engine with VL parts.

If I were Lionel, and I'm not either, I would factor in those that want to detail older or other engines with VL parts as part of the equation when maintaining spare parts.
Sounds like Marty disapproves of what I'm doing here, but there's no need to worry as the policy is already in place and the parts won't be in my unworthy hands until the warranties are up. All I wanted to know was when that is exactly, or if there's a dealer out there that somehow has some of these parts on hand.
Well in this case it's handrails, stanchions, bell, whistle, and cut lever. All of these items are a newer more prototypical design for the VL Hudson, and should have no issues swapping in to my older American-made Hudson. The special "roller bearing rods" I'll be getting from a custom parts maker.
As for VL Hudson owners, once those warranties are up they'd have to buy the parts same as me, so I honestly don't see any wrong in me getting the parts over them if it comes down to it.
Recently I emailed Mike Reagan specifically on this question, and got a response from Phil Hull that they went ahead and opened the parts up to the public. I guess the warranties must be up. A big thank you to the folks at Lionel!
Just got back from checking the page out. I was able to get the whistle and cut lever, but unfortunately they are currently out of the handrails and bell. Will keep an eye out for them in the future.
