Lionel Y6b chuffing on and off?

My Lionel N&W JLC Y6b runs fine. I get whistle, bell and startup sounds but the chuff cuts in and out while running. The chuff will cut out for a few minutes at a time, then will come back on.

Anyone ever have this situation?

First make sure the wireless tether is not misaligned. If not it could be the cherry switch.
