Lionmaster challenger 6-11200 takes off like a rocket.

Well, if it takes off before you have even touched the throttle knob, my top suspect is the DCDS motor driver.  Probably a shorted driver from the sound of things.

Great news john thanks. Just my luck paid 500 from seller who said it was almost new in the box. Oh well legacy lionmaster challengers are hard to find in like new condition at this price. Guess its going to be sent off to have it looked at. I want it working and to keep it. Maybe george can check it out for me. Why must I always get a lemon though. I have the worst luck. Maybe 500 was to good of a deal. Oh well as they say kay sara sara. Thanks john.

A cruise Commander M might do the trick.

DCDS motor board is $109 looks like its is simple to replace. Took picture of the plugs and such before removing anything. When replacing the DCDS board any thing to watch out for so I dont short out the new one.  Hope this does the fix and your right john. Adds another 100 to the overall cost of the engine.I Figure its still a good deal considering if you find one in this great of shape cosmetically they are selling for around 900. Lionel has the part in stock so I will order it online tonight. Thanks guys for the help.

 I'd personally want to do a couple more tests before shelling out $100 or more.  First off, remove the plug from the indicated connector on the DCDS and see if the locomotive still takes off as described.  This will eliminate any possibility it's being told to do so.

John your saying after removing that plug  if it takes off like a rocket again then the board is bad? If it does not take off the board is good? am I understanding you right. If engine does not take off what can be done next? 

John did as you said took out that plug and engine never moved. Put plug back in and it took off immediately. So that means the dcds motor board is bad?

I would have expected it to take off.  I'm guessing from what you say that the optocoupler or associated circuitry on the DCDS may be bad. 

Of course, if you haven't swapped the R4LC yet, that's a suspect here as well since the locomotive didn't react with the R2LC inputs disconnected.  It's also a lot cheaper.   If you have another similar vintage Legacy locomotive, you might try putting the R4LC from this one into that one and see if it exhibits the issue.  Be sure to do a full reset as per the manual each time you move an R4LC to another locomotive. 

This is where having a test set and spare parts really comes in handy.
