Sorry - you are 8 hours away at 65 MPH. But there should be lots of train guys in your area, and clubs too! Good luck.
Well, I really like the idea of a glass of bourbon, but, I'm in the Pittsburgh, PA. area, and the commute would be a bit much. And, I do understand your desire for some companionship. You should be able to find a couple of folks closer to you willing to take up your offer.
Let me know when you want to take that sip of the nectar, and I'll hoist a glass in your honor.
Hi Gondola.....you're in luck..........there is a large group of us centered in Midlothian/Chester
Drop me an email (in my profile) and let's talk........We'll be at the Chesterfield County Fair for 8 days starting Friday night.

Good job, Peter. When a member reaches out like this, it is nice to have members respond to his request. When you lose a spouse, there is a tremendous void in your life. It is nice to have train friends to help fill it. I hope this works out for him.
Isn't joining a club similar to hanging out with like-minded folks? The club is where you are most likely to find a new buddy.
Wish you were in Rockwall TX,. We share the same hair color and like good sipping wiskey

You are missing out on joining a club. One of the best and most rewarding moves I've ever made in the hobby. I joined the National Capital Trackers in January 2006 and have made great friends with like-minded train lunatics guys and their families and more. I strongly believe being a part of a club is one of the best things one can do in the hobby. Sure there are disagreements, occasional argument, hugs, laughs, tears, love, etc but you among family.
Certainly is a shame that you are not located in the western suburbs of Chicago! A few of us get together often for Run Beer, Drink Trains sessions. Plus, I'm a Maker's Mark guy. Although I would not be able to allow you to smoke in the house, as I have asthma, there is always the screened-in back porch.
Darned shame!
I fit the geezer category but not the zip code. Sorry.

MAN......I am in Cleveland.I would love to come over, get drunk and run trains.I LOVE my older guys...we would be PALS!Nick
Hi Gondola,
Members of our club range from our late '50s to early '80s. No pressure in joining the club, but there may be one or more of our members who would enjoy your company. A good cigar and some sipping liquor sounds good to me. I work in the 23234 zip code.
As Peter mentioned, we will be at the Chesterfield County Fair starting this Friday. I do hope you are able to come out to meet the guys. Peter and I will both be at the Fair on Sunday afternoon with plans to photograph and video my beer and tobacco reefer train.
