Modern chassis identification

It is from a Lionel 8008, a New Haven K4 2-6-4. About 1980. It used a DC can motor. (First steam engine to do so.) They also used the same chassis for a Chessie System version. Note that this was before the invention of the electronic reverse circuit board, the engine was only sold in a set with a DC power pack. Also too, where as the postwar K4 were die cast metal bodies, the MPC version had a plastic body. This was last time the 675 die was used.

Chuck is close. He's right about the New Haven K-4 part, but the item number is 8007. The 8008 Chessie is a 4-4-2. 

The other item to use this chassis is the scarce 8001 Nickel Plate 2-6-4, an uncatalogued item from 1980.

I thought the second engine was Chessie, but you are right it was Nickel Plate.

Is there any way to find gear retainer and cluster gear for it ?
Maybe some modern available parts will fit?

The armature bearing plate is 8040-120, the cluster gear is 8040-118. These are available from your Lionel parts dealer.
