MRC - Pure Power Dual AC, 270W

They are pretty close in size to the original Lionel postwar ZW. In the club, when we switched from ZW to the MRC, we put them in the same boxes.

I have one but some folks here on the forum said the poor performance of my PS1,2,3 locos were in part due to the MRC pack,,,,,so I bought the MTH Z-4000.....they are about the same size weight. 

I have one, it's a great transformer.

Thanks for linking this. One mistake, it's 270w on the whole thing, not each side. My bad. Also, if any of you guys know the amperage of the 14v output let me know what it is. 

I run conventionally.  I use three of these, each tied to one of three 'districts' on the layout...Left throttle for the Lower level, right throttle for the upper level.  I do not use the 14v fixed voltage accessory port on any of the three....strictly for running the trains.  I have a few PW ZW's I use for accessories and lights.

VERY pleased with the MRC Dual's performance.  LOVE those meters!!

I think I saw at least one of these in our warehouse.

Great product, ditto on comments regarding MTH equipment performance.  A question however, why would you need something this size for bench testing?  On my test bench I have a lionel LW but only because I had it and it was not being used.  A Z-1000 might be a better alternative, more than enough power.

Gentlemen,

   Nice Transformer, if you can pick a used one up at a good price add it to your power station.  It is limited however with only 2 power channels/handles.  270 for the complete Transformer not, 270 on each channel.   Still a decent power supply, I also believe you can leave the handles in the up/on position, and turn the Transformer on and off from a power bar or remote.

Thanks for Info! I guess I would be concerned about the MTH issue ?   The other attraction was the meters on transformer which the LW doesn't have.

  AMC Dave is correct the P1-P3 electronics is not a perfect match to the MRC for some reason, however this MRC 270 transformer runs Lionel Legacy perfectly.  I do like the meters also, however the Z4K has digital meters and matches their PS Engines perfectly. For this reason I am like AMC Dave and run DCS & Legacy with the Z4K's and the old ZW & KW Transformers.  I do want to pick up a ZW-L also.

No MTH issues with mine.

I just picked one up on the bay for $173.64 with shipping. Brand new in the box.  Couldn't pass it up for that price. Really nice transformer. 

I have used one to run MTH DCS, both P2 and P3 engines with no issues.

.....At least no MORE issues than with the Lionel, K-Line, Weaver, 3rd Rail engines I run with them. 

And the only "issue" that disappoints is the slight sag in engine speed when operating the whistle and bell buttons.

Well, I tend to forgive this when running the trains for my own enjoyment.  I'm not much of a whistle-blower (in the railroad sense, that is!), bell-ringer, or, for that matter, a lover of smoke, smoke, and more smoke.  Of course, for visitors its a necessity.  But for me, I just like having them run, chose alternate routes, stop at the station...and proceed, etc., etc..  Hearing the clickety-clack of the wheels on rail joints and switch frogs is enough noise to delight moi!
