I have the Anheuser Busch Revolving Action car which is similar to the the Lionel Aquarium car.

The problem is that the action film won't rotate on the rollers and keeps sticking to the background.

In order for it to work, I have to open it up time and time again to free the film from the background.

Is there anything I can use on the film to prevent it from sticking? I didn't want to try anything without asking first.

I figured that others had the same problem with their action cars.

Thanks again.

I mentioned the sticking filmstrip aquarium car to some of the MTH people at York a couple of years ago and I think one suggested using a little talc powder along the spindle and edges where the filmstrip would regularly stick.  This remedy works, but in time the strip will stick again to the top and bottom edges unless you regularly operate the car.

Ok, OK better late then never.

Now that I have all my accessories back from the shop working, I finally sat down to try and tackle the revolving action car.

When I opened it up I found the film strip totally stuck on the backgound on both sides.  I had to use a butter knife to gently pry the film strip from the background.

Now how to do the talcum powder thing.  Since I am the original "Joe Thumbs" I thought I would try to blot a little of the talcum powder to the backdrop using a Q-tip.  I sparingly applied the powder to the backdrop and tried to keep the residue from accumulating.

I put the screws back and tried in on the track.  To my surprise it worked the first time!!!  However, I need to let it sit for a day or two and try it again.  In the past, I was able to get it to work once I freed the film from the background, but it would restick again overnight or a day or so later.

Will have to wait and see if the talcum powder solution works.

Will report back what I find.  Promise it wont be six months from now!!!!

George - we must be on the same wavelength.  I was just running the cars again yesterday and once again had the sticking issue.  I'll try the powder as well and was also think about trying a small amount of something like Rainx just to see what happens.  Thanks for the update.

Daryl, I just checked the FAQ on Rain-X and it said to avoid use on acrylic and plasitc.  The spindles are plastic on mine.  Not sure what the film strip is made of.

Just a heads up on that.

Using talcum powder is a short term solution, not sure what to use long term.

Hopefully, there are other solutions out there.

Ok I am at my wits end on this.

The talcum powder worked for several weeks.  I let it sit on the shelf for two weeks and tried it again yesterday and the motor whirred, but the film was stuck to the background.  What else can I use?  Do you folks with the various aquarium cars out there have the same issue?  I had called MTH and they could not help me?

Any more thoughts on this?

Thanks

George
