Mike CT,
I tried your recommendation and adjusted the screws (turned in a little) and the gates don't flicker or flash anymore, mission accomplished!
Thank you very much.
Although there is a other tricky question I have about the possibility of installing a holding relay into the gate arm circuit. Presently there is a tiny section between (almost back to back) Realtrax switches. Presently the short track section has an isolated rail that triggers relay gates. This section of track is maybe 8 " or so, the gates come down properly.
However, with shorter cars or even the longer passenger cars some of the wheel sets loose contact with the isolated rail and as you would think the gates are on their way back up again...
I am controlling the gates now with Trainelectrics (Neil@trainelectrics.com) MTR-12 relays. I wired the relay to the gate per manufacture instruction and relay installed (below). I have 16 of these MTR relays controlling 18 MTH signals and they work fantastic.

The photo above (of relay #12) is used for the gates up/down. The above relay does good job to control the gates but I would like the ability to hold the gates down in the event shorter wheel sets clear the isolated rail section, (so I don't have gates bobbing up and down).
I would like to hold the gate down for another 10 seconds or so... after the train clears entirely.
I picked up this 12v timer relay but am totally unsure how to wire it into mth gate circuit and be used in series with existing relay? Below are some photos of the relay, and the instructions that came with it. I have not installed it yet.

I understand the optional way to do this is installing sensors before and after but as you can see in the photos of the landscape this isn't an option. I'd like to do this without tearing existing gate wiring out. The new TDR I bought may or may not be ideal, could easily get the right part if I knew it would work.
If you know how or where to modify wiring like this would really appreciate sharing your knowledge.
